Sveti Stefan

Popular with the rich and famous, the tiny island of Sveti Stefan is breathtakingly beautiful and is linked to the mainland by a bridge. Built around the 15th century, there is an Orthodox Church on the island and the walled village houses an exclusive hotel complex.

Skadar Lake National Park

The biggest lake in the Balkans, Skadar Lake is one of the largest habitats of birds in Europe. Eerily silent except for the sounds of the birds, rich flora and fauna surround this beautiful scene.

Biogradska Gora National Park

Here you will find one of the last three rainforests in Europe. An area of outstanding natural beauty, at the heart of the rainforest is Biogradsko Lake. Amidst the abundant plant life there are many different kinds of birds and animals making their home here.

Montenegro mountains

The Montenegro mountains transform into a popular ski holiday resort in winter but in the summer you can also find many exciting activities in the mountains such as white water rafting, mountain biking, caving, fishing, horse-riding and para-gliding. Tara Canyon, the second deepest canyon in the world after the Grand Canyon, can be found in the mountains of Montenegro.

Montenegro has an interesting history due to its long quest for freedom and independence, which it finally regained in 2006.

The Ostrog Monastery is carved into high rocks and is the most famous pilgrimage site in Montenegro, it is one of the most visited monasteries in the Balkans.

Visit the old town of Kotor to see one of the best preserved medieval towns in this part of the Mediterranean. With narrows streets and squares, grandiose buildings and other historic landmarks, Kotor has a fascinating cultural heritage.

There are museums, monuments, fortresses and more to discover in Montenegro as you step back into the area’s intriguing historical past.

Montenegrin food & drink

Montenegrin food is as diverse as the landscape with Serb, Venetian, Hungarian, Turkish and Austrian influences. Northern, Continental and Mediterranean specialities can be found across Montenegro and the cost of dining out is very reasonable.

The cuisine is largely Mediterranean on the coast with seafood being popular due to the abundance of freshly caught fish.

Some Montenegrin specialities include Njeguski Ham (delicious as a starter served with olives and cheese), lamb cooked in milk and mussels in bouzzara sauce.

Local wines and beers are of an excellent standard and Montenegro also produces excellent quality brandy.

Montenegro entertainment

Relaxed evenings can be spent sampling fine cuisine accompanied by drinks, and then finished off with a gentle stroll while watching the sun go down. There’s some sophisticated nightlife in the larger towns with bars, jazz clubs and discos, if you want something a little more lively then Budva is probably the best option.
