Croatia’s beaches are mostly pebbly, rocky and narrow, but the lack of sand on these beaches means that the water is extremely clean and clear, waters are generally shallow and safe for children to paddle in. For a family beach holiday, you will find children well catered for with water slides, pine shades and watersports for older children. If you prefer sand to pebble beaches, there are some sandy beaches in Croatia, many of which can be found on the islands.

Croatia is also a popular naturist destination, naturist beaches are normally marked by signs reading “FKK” meaning “Freikorperkultur,” German for Free Body Culture.

Croatian cuisine on the Adriatic Coast is very similar to Italian cuisine whereas in the north, dishes are more like cuisine found in Austria and Hungary. The differences in Croatian food across the country have earned it the name “the cuisine of the regions”. In the coastal region of Croatia you will also find the culinary influence of the French, Greek, Roman and Illyrian.
Dining out while on holiday in Croatia is inexpensive and there is plenty of choice with delicious local and international dishes on offer. On the Adriatic coast you will find a wide variety of fish dishes to enjoy.
Wine is popular in Croatia and due to the unique growing environment, some very individual wines are produced on the Dalmatian coast and islands. Local lagers are also available.
